625. Exhorting - challenging Books

BOOKS THAT WILL CHALLENGE YOU

These books deal with the crucial issues of life. They will help you grow in your faith, grow in your vision, help you see what the need of the world is and where we fit into God's plan to spread the news of His love through Jesus Christ

1. Wanted: World Christians - Herbert Kane.
2. In the Gap: What it means to be a world Christian - David Bryant. Bryant challenges every Christian to answer two questions: "Will I stand in the gap? and "In what part of the gap will I stand?" God's sovereignty ultimately determines how the answer to those two questions will be acted out in each believer's life.

3. The Great Omission: A Biblical Basis for world Evangelism - Robertson McQuilkin. Respected missions thinker Robertson McQuilkin answers the question, "How is it―with so many unreached peoples, there are so few Christians going?" He investigates the reasons so few attempt to carry the message of Christ to the multitudes who have never heard of him.

4. A Mind For Missions - Paul Borthwick. Discover 10 building blocks for sensitizing yourself or your small group to needs of missions. From prayer and giving to current events and lifestyle choices, learn practical ways of sharpening your world vision, growing your concern for missions, and sharing the gospel. (paperback and kindle.)

5. Six Dangerous Questions - Paul Borthwick. Transform Your View of the World. How do you see the world? As lots of great vacation spots? As millions of people with problems too big to imagine? Missionary Paul Borthwick just might expand your view--or even explode it. He asks six dynamite questions that challenge you to look more closely at other countries, other cultures, other ethnic groups and other ways of acting on your faith.
6. Give Up Your Small Ambitions - Michael Griffiths.

7. What On Earth Are You Doing? - Michael Griffiths. What does it mean to be a missionary in the world today. Dr. Griffiths challenges those who may have not seriously thought about missions before, confronting them with the prospects of a life spent in cross-cultural missionary service.

8. Taking Our Cities for God: How to break spiritual strongholds - John Dawson. You are in the middle of an invisible spiritual war! Explore strategies for faith and prayer that can win the battle!

9. The Urban Christian: effective ministry in today's urban world - Ray Bakke. There are millions of opportunities for the gospel. With half of the world's five billion people in cities, there is almost no end to the exciting challenges that await us. Ray Bakke has been there.

10. Out of the Comfort Zone - George Verwer. Mission agencies have different strategies, and even within a mission or church there can be tension and division over strategy and details of how things should be done. Must we be so dogmatic on matters that the Bible is not clear about? Can't we accept that God works in different ways among different groups of people?

11. The World At your Doorstep: A Handbook for International Student ministry - Lawson Lau. An excellent account by an international student studying in the US about how Christians can minister to international students. Its great strength is a lengthy discussion of the experience of culture shock, and more generally of the difficulties faced by a student setting foot in a foreign land to start school.

12. When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor - Steve Corbett. Poverty is much more than simply a lack of material resources, and it takes much more than donations and handouts to solve it.

13. The Hole In Our Gospel: What Does God Expect of Us? - Richard Stearns. Is our faith just about going to church, studying the Bible and avoiding the most serious sins―or does God expect more?

14. What Do You Say To A Hungry World? - Stan Mooneyham.

15. The Great Omission - Steve Saint. In this powerful call for the inclusion of indigenous believers in the Great Commission, Steve Saint shows how current missions strategies have unwittingly harmed the indigenous church and kept millions of believers from fulfilling their roles in God's Kingdom—and millions of others from hearing the Good News. (papeback and kindle.)

16. Western Christians in Global Mission: What’s the Role of the North American Church? – Paul Borthwick. Some think the day of the Western missionary is over. Some are wary that American mission efforts may perpetuate an imperialistic colonialism. Some say that global outreach is best left to indigenous leaders. Others simply feel that resources should be focused on the home front. Is there an ongoing role for the North American church in global mission?
